Aquaculture production
Ecophysiological data can be very useful and applied to improve the production of shellfish. By studying feeding, growth, and other physiological responses across a range of culture conditions, we can understand how to improve animal husbandry and optimize production.
We study oysters and other shellfish under laboratory, hatchery, and field conditions. At Horn Point Laboratory we have exceptional, state-of-the-art facilities for studying oysters and industry practices. This includes the Shellfish Aquaculture Innovation Laboratory (SAIL). Innovative projects in SAIL include the use of remotely operated vehicles (ROV) to advance technology within the aquaculture industry.
All graduate students in the Gray lab conduct research that is related to the shellfish industry, so please see the graduate student tab if interested in this subject.
